SHELTIE KINGS

  Charmeleon of Papa Stour

After our first visit to Debbie and Charles from Gwensigor's and Of Papa Stour we went home with the promise that we could get a puppy from their upcoming litter, if there was a boy in it. On the 17th of October Debbie called to say that Meg had got six puppies: three males and three females, all sable/white.

When the pups were three weeks old we could come to see them. Charles didn't have names for the puppies yet. He told us to give his puppies names from movies or other themes. Did we have an idea? 'Pokémon', Lauro said. The pups gót Pokémon names and the sheltie we were going to have was called Charmeleon of Papa Stour, with 'golden boy' as surname, because of its golden glow.

Three weeks later we headed for Wilhelminaoord again. This time the puppies were playing around the house, discovering the green world outside. We told Debbie and Charles Charmeleon should be called Simba, and that was the beginning of the Sheltie Kings.

On Sunday, December 17th, 2000, we could take Simba home. We were quite nervous. After coffee, formalities and our promise to visit a show with Simba when the time had come, it was time to say goodbye. To Debbie en Charles it was of course emotional too. They must let go a puppy that lived with them from the very first day on. They feeded him, caressed him. To us it was a tense moment. I had Simba on my lap, where he fell asleep soon. It was quiet on our way home. The three of us were all coping with the new situation on our own way.

Once at home we let Simba discover the house. In the meantime we read through the information that we got from Debbie and Charles, for we were quite uncertain, despite the good preparation. After all we wanted the best for Simba.
